MUMBAI: The city Congress president, Sanjay Nirupam, requested the union minister of finance and information technology, Arun Jaitley, to telecast Marathi sahitya sammelan (Marathi Literary meet) on local regional channel (Sahyadri).

Nirupam informed the union government that the regional channel had earlier showed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's speech live on the occasion of Vijayadashami last year. The DD's decision had created controversy and the Congress had slammed the BJP government stating that it had "misused" Doordarshan. The BJP had defended the DD's decision to telecast the Bhagwat's live speech.

On Thursday, Nirupam wrote to Jaitley requesting him that 88th All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan starting in Punjab from Friday and the union government should ensure it lives telecast on Sahyadri channel without charging anything to the organizer. He stated that the live telecast will help people in the Maharashtra to watch the literary meet. Nirupam said that the DD had asked big fees from the organizer to telecast the program. The meet is attended by artist, actors, authors and senior ministers, politicians.
