''We have lodged an FIR against the driver identified as Vinod Vishwakarma at the Bangur Nagar police station for rash driving and killing an animal under sections 429 and 279 of the Indian Penal Code and under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,'' said the animal activist Bhavin Gathani of Karuna Parivar Trust.
The accused driver, Vishwakarma, reportedly fled from the spot after the accident. Police said that they have seized the concrete-mixer truck from the accident spot.
''We are spreading mass awareness among citizens and motorists to drive carefully as killing any animal on the road is a punishable offence with a prison term of five years. Also, while restarting a parked vehicle, the drivers must give a few seconds to ensure that any sleeping dog and car underneath is able to get out of the way.
