Mira-Bhayander civic chief sets aside two hours on Monday for the public

MUMBAI: The general public wanting to meet the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) commissioner will get just one day in a week to meet the officer.

Newly appointed MBMC commissioner Achyut Hange has issued orders to meet the public on every Monday between 12 pm to 2 pm. Earlier commissioners used to 'meet' the public on Mondays and Thursdays.

While the move has upset the public, civic sources said that the aim is to do justice to those visiting the commissioner. So far, even though the public could meet the commissioners of Mondays and Thursdays, on most days they would end up being directed to the additional and deputy municipal commissioners. Many a times residents complained that none of the top civic officials were on their seats on public meeting dates. Even Right To Information (RTI) applicants and various tax payers have been complaining about officers and staffers not being on their seats during working hours.

The commissioner will try and ensure that Mondays between 12-2 pm he is available to hear public complaints and direct concerned departments to take necessary action.
