Joint commissioner hands over the charge

MUMBAI: Joint commissioner of police (crime) Sadanand Date on Monday handed over the charge of crime branch to additional commissioner of police (EOW) Rajwardhan Sinha. Date, an IPS officer of 1991 batch completed a tenure of one year on Monday. Date had asked for deputation to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Last week the centre government approved his depuation and had send back the file to state government for the decision.

Sources said that on Saturday the government sanctioned his deputation and send the file the Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria who on Monday cleared him. Date, is the same police officer who alone went to confront the 26/11 Pakistan terrorist that held a hostage drama at Cama hospital. Date survived a 45-minute exchange of gunfire and got injured. He was heading the elite Force One team formed immediately after the 26/11 attacks, which was set up on the lines of the National Security Guard (NSG),to counter such terror attacks.

Sources said that now the chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will take a call as to who will replace him. Joint commissioner of police (law and order) Dhananjay Kamlakar, Thane joint commissioner Laxmi Narayan, IG Deven Bharti, Ashotush Dumbre and Niket Kaushik's names are few contenders who will take Date's hot chair.
