A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice M S Sonak heard applications by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and State government to allow parking on September 2, 4 and 8. BMC's counsel S U Kamdar said there will be hundreds of trucks arriving for immersion at the Dadar beach. He said it will be impossible to accommodate so many vehicles and the situation will be chaotic.
Wecom Trust, on whose petition HC in May 2010 declared the park a silence zone and in August 2011 banned parking, opposed grant of permission. Its advocates told the court that BMC and State come to court for permission on the eve of the festival. The judges have also directed restoration of the park and a subsequent meeting of the authorities to review the restoration work. They have posted the next hearing on November 30 to take up Wecom's plea to find solution to the parking problem.
