MUMBAI: The state transport department has given finishing touches to the new computer software which will enable you to fill up all data and generate a receipt online before appearing for a RTO driving test.
Sources said that the online system will be launched in the next few days. The process is expected to keep touts and agents at bay and ensure transparency in licence application.
"So far, those appearing for learner licence could go for online registrations and get a token before coming to RTO. But now we will provide online service at your doorstep even for the final driving test,'' said principal secretary (state transport) Shailesh Sharma.
"The portal will enable you to get registered for the final driving test, seek an appointment for the same, fill up your forms online and get the time slot for the final test. When you come to the RTO, all you need to do is produce the online receipt and sit in a car for the test. There will be no middleman or agent,'' he stated.
Sharma further stated that the government wanted to eliminate the role of touts. "We do not want to see them hanging anywhere near the RTO premises. Citizens should apply online and come directly for the tests,'' he added.
