The accused has been identified as Jairam Kevat. His aide, Sunny Jaiswal, 20, was caught red-handed on the day of the incident itself. The duo are habitual offenders, police officials said.
The complainant, Dinesh Jaiswal and his wife, run a restaurant at Hindustan Naka in Kandivali West. They reside at Laljipada, also in Kandivali. Early on July 5, the accused-duo broke into the restaurenteur's residence. They were looking for valuables when Dinesh and his wife returned home from work. "The accused panicked and picked up a hammer from the house. They assaulted Dinesh and his wife who resisted. The couple raised an alarm, alerting neighbours," said a police official.
While Kevat managed to flee, Sunny was caught and handed over to the cops. Kevat had managed to steal some cash and 8 to 10 gms of gold. He was nabbed on July 15, officials said.
