MUMBAI: The weather department announced the arrival of monsoon in the city and neighbouring Pune on Sunday. The rains have progressed till Gujarat along the coast but is yet to hit central Maharashtra, the officials said.

The five-delay in the onset of monsoon was predicted this year as Kerala had witnessed a delay. Weather officials said that rains for the past three days marked the arrival of monsoon. A weather bureau official said, "Early on Sunday, Colaba received around 21.4mm of rains while Santacruz saw about 14.6mm rainfall".

The monsoon arrival however had little impact on the heat or humidity as both were on a sweltering high. While the maximum temperature for both Colaba and Santacruz hovered around 33 degree Celsius, humidity soared upto 85%.

The weather department has predicted rains and thundershowers in the next 24 to 48 hours. There is also possibility of heavy rains in certain parts of the city.
