Three civic staffers on suspension for bribe charges, reinstated.

MUMBAI: Three civic employees who were caught red-handed accepting bribes two years ago and were on suspension have been reinstated by the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC).

Junior engineer Prashant Jankar, then in the electrical department was caught by the Thane Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a civic contractor in December 2011. Two clerks Dashrath Handore and Ganesh Ghodge, then working in the recovery wing of the Local Body Tax (LBT) department were caught red-handed accepting bribe in March 2012.

Jankar, Handore and Ghodge were under suspension and their cases are in the court. On May 20, the three employees were asked to resume work based on the recommendation of an internal review committee.

Civic officials said that they were reinstated as per government rules that allows reinstatement after two years, till the matter is finally decided by the court. The three employees were drawing 75 per cent salary while on suspension. They have now been posted to departments where they do not have any contact with the public.
