The accused, Amit Jain, was upset with the woman for implicating him in a rape charge following which he was sent to jail in 2012. He lost his job following his arrest at that time and he held the woman and her family responsible. The 28-year-old survivor is related to Jain and the two were in a relationship. Promising to marry her, he had physical relations with her but later reneged on his words.
