MUMBAI: The Bangladesh Navy Ships Ali Haider and Nirmul sailed to Mumbai on a goodwill visit from May 21 to 23. The ships were commanded by Captain Mohammad Anwar Hussain and Commander Tanzim Faruq, respectively and have a combined complement of 320 personnel. The ships are enroute to Lebanon as part of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

This was the first occasion when Bangladesh Naval ships have visited Mumbai. Hence, the current visit by BN Ships held significance for the Western Naval Command (WNC). During the ships' stay, crew engaged in professional interactions with personnel of WNC.

India and Bangladesh enjoy historical bilateral relations, built upon shared culture, geography and people to people contact. The Indian Navy has been in the forefront to train Bangladesh Naval Personnel. Visit by the ships would further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries in general and the two Navies in particular.
