MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received three bids for the construction of the Gazdarband pumping station at Khardanda.

According to the civic officials, three firms - Larsen and Toubro (L&T), Skyway Infraprojects Limited and Pratibha Industries, have submitted their bids for the project.. The Rs 13-crore pumping station is likely to ease the flooding problems in Khar and neighbouring areas.

Civic officials have expressed satisfaction over the positive response of infrastructure giant L&T for this project. Earlier BMC's several attempts to persuade the company for its road projects had not borne fruits.

The civic standing committee had recently passed a Rs 138-crore proposal of constructing a pumping station at Britannia at Reay Road. Work on Love Grove pumping station at Worli is expected to be complete by April next year.

Under the Rs 3,000 crore Brihanmumbai Storm Water Disposal System (Brimstowad) project, the BMC has decided to construct pumping stations at eight places - Haji Ali, Irla (Juhu), Lovegrove and Cleveland Bunder (both at Worli), Britannia (Reay Road), Gazdarbund (Khardanda), Mogra (Santacruz) and Mahul - where water logging takes place during monsoon. These stations are being built to prevent floods and stagnation of water in low-lying areas. However, so far only two pumping stations are operational, Haji Ali and Irla pumping station.
