An evening in honour of nine Urdu poets

MUMBAI: For long, connoisseurs of Urdu poetry have lamented the lack of literary events which could do justice to the great poets who enriched India's composite culture. Now, this shortcoming will be partly compensated as Pasbaan-e-Adab, a literary body, plans to put up 'Meeras' (The Heritage) at Y B Chavan Centre near Mantralaya on November 16.

Featuring works of nine poets who were either born or died in November, the programme will showcase shairi, mausiqi (music) and brief commentaries on life and works of poets like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Shibli Noamani, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi and Akhtarul Iman. "We want to inculcate people's interest in good poetry and rich music," said Qaisar Khalid, senior cop and main architect of the show.

Said Imteyaz Khaleel, the show's anchor, "Our idea is to introduce poets and writers to a generation which has been brought up on a different culture."
