Two auto drivers held for murdering pal in Virar

MUMBAI: Two auto rickshaw drivers from Virar have been arrested for allegedly murdering their friend in January this year. The partly burnt body of Gaurav Kesari (23), also an auto rickshaw driver, was found in a drain at Chandansar in Virar (east) by passersby on January 2.

The victim's head was smashed with a boulder and the killers had set the body on fire. The blood soaked boulder was lying near the drain. The body was identified based on the driving licence lying in the shirt pocket.

The Virar police picked up Kesari's friends Vijay Bhaisare (20) and Rahul Pawaskar (23). They confessed to having killed Kesari after he refused to give them money for drinks. The friends allegedly knocked down Kesari and stabbed him on the chest with a knife. They then smashed his face with a boulder, poured kerosene on his body and set him on fire. They have been arrested under section 302 (murder), 201(destroying evidence) and 34(common intent) of the Indian Penal Code.
