PWD engineers may have been arrested for amassing disproportionate assets, but a former deputy collector of Sindhudurg, Nitesh Thakur, is absconding after a probe by the ACB and ED showed he owned properties worth Rs 118 crore. His last drawn salary was Rs 30,000 in 2006 when he was an officer on special duty at J J hospital before he stopped reporting to work. Thakur owns 10 luxury cars, including a Range Rover, an Audi and a BMW. The probe showed he had even set up a company, PRS enterprises, in his brother's name and claimed to have undertaken project management for a realty major, which reportedly paid him Rs 258 crore, but there is no document to validate the amount. The ACB has found that the Thakurs own tracts of land in Thane, a hotel, four flats in Alibaug, five in the city, an office in Kandivli, a bungalow in Gorai and a duplex in Vile Parle and seven shops.
