BEST workers rally will not affect bus services

MUMBAI: BEST workers union leader Sharad Rao assured that bus commuters will not be inconvenienced on April 17, when a section of workers will participate in a rally.

"It will be a peaceful rally to Azad Maidan and only those workers, who have finished their day's duties or are off-duty will participate. The rally will not affect the functioning of buses,'' he stated. A section of media had reported that there could be a strike and services may be affected on April 17.

Said Rao, "We are just demanding that workers should be paid the bonus (pending since Divali last year) and they should get the salary arrears. Our protest will be peaceful and we dont want to cause any inconvenience to bus commuters." He stated that bus services will ply as normal on that day.

Driver and conductors on duty will not participate in the rally and ply buses. Some of the BMC workers will also join the rally, it is learnt.
