Hegde pointed out to PWD (Public Undertakings) minister Jaydatta Kshirsagar that over 3500 accidents resulting in over 850 deaths have occurred in the past 7 years on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Hegde informed the House that in the past 7 years there is an average of 1 death in every 3 days and in spite of 100s of deaths there is no First Aid or Health Posts on the 95 km stretch of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Minister Jaydatta Kshirsagar replied saying that in the next 2 months provision will be made through MSRDC to install First Aid Posts along the Expressway.
He added that Additional Speed Guns, Surveillance Monitoring System, CCTv's etc. will also be installed.
Home Minister R. R. Patil also added that additional Police Force would be deployed on the Expressway for the security of the Motorists and also to control reckless speeding which was leading to fatal accidents.
In an other question raised during Question Hour by the Leader of Opposition Shri Eknath Khadse regarding illegal Bangladeshi occupants living in 300 houses constructed for the Kapad Bazar workers at Sahyadri Nagar, Kandivili, Vile Parle MLA Krishna Hegde enquired as to when these houses were built for Kapad Bazar workers and why there was a delay in allotment of the Houses.
Replying to the question, Labour Minister Hasan Mushrif informed that these houses were built in 1978 and are illegally occupied. Eviction notice has been served and action taken against the erring officials.
On the suggestion of Hon'ble Speaker of the Assembly Dilip Valse Patil the concerned Minister agreed to handover the investigation regarding illegal occupants to the Crime Branch ( Mumbai Police).
