Maria (33), a Russian tourist, was lucky to have been heard by rescue workers. Locals who arrived at the spot could hear the faint voice of a woman coming from the middle of the bus, asking for help. Maria was returning from Goa to Mumbai to take a flight back home. Rescuers said she was lucky to have survived, as her seat (number 21) was on the right side of the bus, which hit the riverbed. While being removed from the seat, she told rescuers that her right arm was fractured. Dr Upendra Talathi, who treated Maria in a Khed hospital, confirmed she had suffered a severe fracture in her right arm. "She was here between 6am and 1pm. We realized her arm needed surgery. Apart from the physical injuries, she looked badly shaken. We referred her to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai," he said.
