BMC to give compensation to the family of the slab collapse victim

MUMBAI: A day after an eight-year-old boy died of grievous injuries after the slab of a four-storeyed dilapidated building in Sewri collapsed on him, the BMC has decided to give compensation to the family.

Corporators claimed that the BMC has not conducted any structural audit of its buildings and hence these incidents cannot be avoided.

"The BMC should give compensation to the victims families. The BMC should undertake audits immediately so that such incidents can be avoided,"said Mayor Sunil Prabhu.

In the tragic incident that took place at Rafi Ahmed Kidwai marg, Building no 5, Dnyaneshwar nagar, Wadala (West), civic officials said, the children would come from nearby building for tuition. At the time of the incidence, they were headed home after completing their day's tuitions.

Assistant commissioner Sanjay Kurhade of F-South ward said, "The repair and plastering work of the buildings is being carried out BMC for past few months.
