MUMBAI: Several months after the Sion-Dharavi-Mahim bridge collapsed, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has floated tenders to repair it.

The tenders have been floated and are being scrutinised, once completed, the work will be awarded to the lowest bidder and will ease bottlenecks between the island city and the eastern and western suburbs.

The estimated cost of the project is pegged at Rs 6.6 crore.

The process in finalising the bidder is currently on. According to civic officials, 4 firms participated in the e-tendering process and the lowest bidder is yet to be finalised.

In August 2011, a portion of the culvert over Mahim creek collapsed. This bridge was constructed by the Public Works Department around 30 years ago.

The four-lane bridge was then converted into a one-way, affecting traffic in the region. The bridge connects traffic from Tulsi Pipe Road, Sion, Dharavi and Bandra junction.

"After more than two designs of the bridge being changed, we have now asked the consultants to consider a concrete bridge," an official added.
