MUMBAI: The BJP and the MNS has opposed the proposal to offer a plot to cricketer Harbhajan Singh for setting up a cricket academy in Mumbai. Harbhajan has demanded a plot from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for providing cricket training to aspiring young kids in the city.
In a letter to civic body, BJP MLC Ashish Shelar said, instead of providing plot to Harbhajan, the BMC should made available land to Mumbai players like Wasim Jaffer, Dilip Vengsarkar, Lalchand Rajput and Ajit Agarkar.
BMC's policy on open spaces is pending with the state government. Hence it will not be right to offer civic plot to any athlete, he added.
MNS corporator Sandeep Deshpande has also opposed the move to provide land to Harbhajan Singh.
Singh had met Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte on Monday asking if to give him a land to open a cricket academy in the city.
