MUMBAI: The Santa Cruz police issued the sketch of the accused who had killed a 41-year-old woman in a lodge at Vile Parle (west) on Wednesday night.
The suspect, Papu Shrivastva,25, had entered the hotel along with Sangita Sharma,41. Shrivastva provided his details in the hotel register stating that he lives at Santa Cruz before the couple entered the hotel's room. The police found that the provided details fake.
The police suspect that Shrivastav strangulated the victim to death just after they checked in and an hour later he left there. A hotel staff found that the room was locked from outside and informed the hotel manager. They rang the door bell but no one responded. They opened the door with the help of a spare key. They found the woman's naked body in the bathroom and informed the police.
The Santa Cruz police initially registered an accidental death case and sent the body for postmortem at Cooper Hospital. The postmortem report confirmed that the woman was strangulated to death after which the police added murder section in the case.
The crime branch also started parallel investigation in the case and inquiring about the suspect. An officer stated that the hotel was known for dubious activities.
