Addressing a work shop organised by the Maharashtra State Women's Commission on self-defence techniques for women at the Sahyadri state guest house on Wednesday, Banthia directed the women and child development department to ensure such public hearings were held at the tehsil level. The meeting, he said, should be attended by women officials from the revenue, health and police department.
"Women officials must be deputed as it would be easier for the oppressed woman to express her hardships," he said, adding the increasing crime against women was a matter of great concern. There was an urgent need to change mindsets in society, he said, adding even an economically empowered woman faced violence at home.
