State schools not giving SC scholarships
The visit of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to Maharashtra revealed that 213 schools in district Sholapur failed to give students from the Scheduled Caste scholarships for the year 2011-12. The Maharashtra government clarified to the commission that a proposal was sent to the social welfare department by the concerned schools. The government also clarified that show-cause notices were issued to the defaulting schools; out of this 203 schools had submitted their clarification. The NHRC directed the schools to immediately submit a proposal to the government to provide scholarships to the students and the government must immediately comply with disbursement of money.
Maharashtra not doing enough for disabled
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) during its three-day visit to Maharashtra pointed out that not enough was being done for the disabled in the state. The NHRC was told that Sickle Cell disease has not been included in the eligibility criteria to describe a disabled person in the RPWD Bill, 2012. The commission also observed that Thalassemia has been included in the eligibility criteria. Since both Thalassemia and Sickle Cell are related to blood disorder, the commission recommended to the centre to consider inclusion of the two diseases in the RPWD Bill, 2012.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) during its three-day visit to Maharashtra took note of the plight of those people who have been occupying government land for decades and yet their possession has been regularised. The MHRC made a recommendation the state government to consider the cases of such people with sympathy and in cases where they have been possession since long, urgent steps must be taken to ensure regularization of their possession in accordance with the directions issues by the Supreme Court. NHRC takes note of college and school problems in Maharashtra
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took note of the problems related to the students of SC/ST in the government-run colleges in the rural areas. On its three-day visit to Maharashtra, the commission was told about the state government's reluctance to accord recognition to primary and secondary schools at Pangao in Latur district, in schools meant exclusively for the SC & ST. The commission pointed out to the government that the schools is meant exclusively for the children of SC and education must be imparted to only those children. The commission asked the state government to take decision to accord recognition to the school within four weeks.
