MUMBAI: On the backdrop of rising crimes against women, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator has demanded that girl students in municipal schools should be given training of judo or karate for their self-defence.
Dilip Lande, the MNS group leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has moved a notice of motion in the civic general body meeting in which he has asked the civic body to provide training of judo/karate to girl students in civic schools. The issue of security of women has come on anvil after the brutal gang rape case in Delhi. Several movements have also started to help women fight against the atrocities. Various social organisations, private institutes are providing training of judo-karate to girls for their self-defence. Some of the political parties are also distributing weapons to women, so that they can use it in case of emergency.
Lande said, "On the backdrop of rising cases of atrocities against women, it has become necessary to provide training of judo/karate to girls for their security.
