MUMBAI: The cyber crime investigation cell (CCIC) of the cit police, probing the case of an anti-Muslim movie Innocence of Islam, has so far deleted 89 videos of the movie. Senior police officials in the crime branch said the origin of videos uploaded on the YouTube have been traced in the US, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The movie, produced and directed by American director-producer Sam Basil, shows Prophet Mohammed in poor light and wrongly scripted the movie which has nothing to do with Islam. The movie sparked riots in many countries and even US ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, and three others were killed by the angry mob in Bebghazi in September this year. Following the violent reactions from Muslims, the crime branch registered a case based on advocate Zulfiqar Memon's complaint against Basil and five others.

"The CCIC did a brilliant job in this case. We took help from Delhi-based Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and got a warrant against the accused from the Esplanade court. The warrants were sent to service providers and they were asked to block videos. A team of 16 police personnel led by senior officer Mukund Pawar worked for 69 days and blocked the 89 videos," crime branch additional commissioner Niket Kaushik told TOI. Several muslim countries had registered cases against the film maker and his staff. On Wednesday, an Egyptian court convicted eight persons in absentia to death over the movie.

The CCIC saved the city from another violence after the August 11 Azad Maidan riots, say observers. Senior police officials said that look out motices have been issued at all the Indian airports against the accused. "We are in the process of getting Letter Regoratory (LR) from our court. These letters would be sent to American, Pakistani and Bangladeshi courts asking to help their police in nabbing the accused. Moreover extradition will also be tried," said the officer.

"We have to see how the three countries respond to our request and then we will take further action," said the officer.
Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan had a telephonic conversation with Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in this regard. The case was registered under various sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code.
