Carol singers of Powai to ring in Xmas with underprivileged kids

MUMBAI: The Gonsalo Garcia Community choir from Most Holy Trinity Church, Powai, join hands with the Green team of Rodas and the Young Environmentalists NGO to bring in a green Christmas and celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus by singling carols along with underprivileged children.

The event will be held on December 20, after 6 pm, at Rodas ecotel, Hiranandani Gardens in Powai. Many underprivileged kids who have never seen a Santa before or felt the warmth of celebrations like this will join the community in celebrating Xmas along with carol singers. Carol songs usher in joy and peace of Christmas all across the city in various ways.

It is truly a season of joy and sharing. The Christmas story enactment will be followed by carol singing. All are welcome to join. It will surely bring true bonding among the communities,'' said Elsie Gabriel of Young Environmentalists group. Gabriel added: It is a good time to share with underprivileged street kids and also a time to revive carol songs.

Most radio stations will play some type of Christmas music during the holiday season, but many of the songs have become so familiar to us that we no longer consider their content. In between the secular songs like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and " Santa Clause is coming to town," always take lead, but believe me Christmas isn't Christmas without Carol singing.''

Some carols like "Joy to the World" was written by Isaac Watts and published for the first time in 1719. The song is a paraphrase of the 98th Psalm in the Bible, and it has become one of the most popular Christmas carols of all time.
