MUMBAI:The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has arranged for a special Maha Adalat on Monday for speedy disposal of cases against the BMC or filed by the BMC against a person.
The adalat will be from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. at 39th Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Vile Parle and 41st & 42nd Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Shinde Wadi, Dadar (East) for pending cases filed by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.
The BMC has appealed to the interested litigants to attend the Special drive in person or through their advocate and get the cases disposed off appealed by civic administration.
There are over 80,000 court cases lying pending with the civic legal department.
"This drive has been taken to address the issue of high level of pendency. This will help in speedy disposal of cases,"said a civic official from the legal department.
According to the data obtained from the legal department till February this year, 56994, the highest number cases that are pending, are the ones that the civic body has filed in the metropolitan magistrate courts.
The cases that are pending include that of property tax, illegal construction, property related issues. These also include public interest litigation (PIL) filed by citizens in which the civic body is a party.
The pending cases cause a revenue loss of over Rs 70 crore to the BMC.
