KALYAN: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) chief's decision to reduce staircase premium charges on builders from 100% to 40% has increased the administration's revenue by nearly 200%.

Earlier, the decision was opposed by all parties on the grounds that it would lead to a loss for the corporation.

The 100% premium discouraged several builders from taking up projects in the region. Hence, municipal commissioner Ramanth Sonawane decided to reduce the premium to increase revenue last year.

After Sonawane took the decision, it was opposed by all parties, including opposition MNS and MP Anand Paranjape. Sonawane tried to convince them and subsequently the order got a green signal at the general body meeting. If KDMC statistics are to be believed, the KDMC, which earns a revenue of Rs 25 crore annually, has earned Rs 45 crore in eight months only this year.
